The VRD employs approximately 25 fulltime year-round employees. Employment opportunities increase each summer to maintain services at the Vail Golf Club and with Youth Services.

The Vail Recreation District Board of Directors, a five-member panel, is responsible for setting policies and guiding staff throughout the year. Each board member is elected to staggered four-year terms. Elections occur every two years in May with the next election scheduled for May 2012. Board members must be residents or own real property in Vail. The VRD is a special district and is separate from the Town of Vail. It operates programs at the Vail Golf Club, Ford Park Tennis Center, Dobson Ice Arena, Vail Gymnastics Center, Vail Nature Center, Vail Nordic Center, and intramural sports and children’s camps at various locations. The current Board of Directors and the year their Terms Expire are:

The board meets at 5 p.m. on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at the Vail Town Council Chambers to discuss issues that could impact the VRD and the constituents of the District. The VRD Board and staff closely monitor expenditures and incoming revenue, allowing the organization to meet its mission of providing diverse recreational programs and opportunities for its residents and guests. The VRD’s adopted budget for 2011 allows the organization to continue to provide high quality and cost efficient programs and activities, while remaining financially conservative.

Scholarships | Information
The Vail Recreation District is proud to offer grants or scholarships for most of its youth activities. With the help of various community outreach programs and businesses, the VRD is able to provide need- and merit- based awards to deserving youth throughout the Valley.
