New for 2013!
The 2013 KEEN Vail Kids Adventure Race will expand to four days of fun for kids and families this summer. The event will include two days of optional skills clinics for race participants, an interactive Family Adventure Expo area and two days of competition with multiple courses based on the age and ability level of participants. The age limit for this year's event has been increased to 14 years old. 

Overview ::
The 4th annual KEEN Vail Kids Adventure Race will offer kids, ages six through 14, the opportunity to experience the thrill of adventure racing through Vail and the surrounding wilderness. During the race, teams of two will work together to navigate a variety of sports and and problem-solving challenges, including mountain biking, hiking, tubing, archery, a low ropes course, a zip line, a climbing wall, a Tarzan swing, a giant slip-n-slide and more. The KEEN Vail Kids Adventure Race will begin with instructions and a safety briefing by Race Director and Adventure Racer, Billy Mattison. Competitors will be divided into waves based on age and start at set intervals.  Younger children will race Saturday, Aug. 10 and older participants will race on Sunday, Aug. 11, 2013.

Optional Skills Clinics ::
Adventure racers can participate in four optional clinics on either Thursday, Aug. 8 or Friday, Aug. 9 to sharpen their skills and increase their (and their parents') confidence prior to the race. Clinics will be taught by local experts and will last approximately four hours. All clinics will meet at KidSPORT in Vail Village. Cost is $50 per child for all four clinics. Space is limited and preregistration is required. Skills clinics are only available for kids registered in the 2013 KEEN Vail Kids Adventure Race. Skills clinics will include:

Mountain Biking - Coached by Vail Mountain Bike Camps
Climbing/Ropes - Coached by Vail Athletic Club staff
Teamwork - Coached by SOS Outreach Meet the Wilderness staff
Adventure Racing Overview - Coached by local adventure racers

Cost ::
$150 per team of two. Registration includes a 2013 KEEN Vail Kids Adventure Race backpack and other goodies, as well as food for racers during the post-race party and a prize raffle. Optional skills clinics cost $50 for all four clinics.
