Children are children wherever they are: they love fun, they love to learn and they love to be with friends, old and new. VRD celebrates resident and visiting youth by providing top-notch facilities, which conduct camps, classes, leagues and events geared toward improvement at a sport, understanding our alpine environment, or just plain having fun. The VRD’s youth summer camps feature hands-on learning about the natural environment, adventure-packed days including rafting and caving, arts and crafts, plus golf, gymnastics, ice skating and more. All camps fill on a first-come, first-served basis and early registration is encouraged.

Throughout the summer, the VRD hosts an array of youth sports camps including volleyball, lacrosse, golf, ice hockey, soccer, gymnastics, figure skating, baseball and basketball, plus sports training camps. Additionally, during the spring and fall, the VRD manages a youth soccer league for ages four through 13.

• KidZone meets after school and on designated no-school days. Through sports, gym games, playground play, arts and crafts, group games and homework help, KidZone's staff provides an experience full of imagination and activity. Programs take place at Red Sandstone Elementary School gymnasiums and cafeteria.  VRD Youth Services offers School’s Out Camp during spring, winter and various breaks throughout the school year. Camps take place at Red Sandstone Elementary School gymnasium with drop-off from 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. and pick-up from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Cost is $46 per student or $36 for Eagle County students. Dobson Ice Arena offers year-round ice hockey and figure skating classes and camps for ages four and older.

The Gymnastics Center partners with Master Mathew Bayley and the Vail Academy of Martial Arts to provide martial arts instruction for both children and adults. 

Early Childhood Programs   |    Ages 2 to 5    |   Information    
Imagination Station
The Imagination Station, a thoughtful play space, is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday . The Imagination Station is for children ages two to 12 and their families and its new features include a play wall that encourages active play integrating physical and cognitive learning; a light table and builder boards that inspire development and dexterity; a hyperbolic funnel that models planetary motion; and a new Mad Scientist's Lab where children will make slime, "gak" and other messy projects. The marble wall also will be back with a more user-friendly design where children can spend hours revising their marble track. Costs per child are $5 per day, $10 per week, $20 per month or $40 a year. Family memberships are available for $30 per month or $60 per year for unlimited visits. Adults and children under two are free.

Preschool Programs
Preschool-aged children have plenty of activities to get them indoors and out of the cold throughout the winter beginning in January. Programs include Art for the Young Child, Mommy & Me Yoga and more. VRD staff will offer custom art or science programs for children ages three and older who are potty trained. Cost is $10 per child, per hour for up to three hours.

Youth Mountain Bike Racing       |   Ages 8 and Older    |   Information      |     Online Registration
The VRD offers children eight and older an opportunity to race in its Youth Mountain Bike Race League. Races take place on select Wednesdays throughout the summer and allow children to race with some of the best racers in the Vail Valley and beyond. Children must bring their own bicycle and wear a helmet.

Skateboard Clinics      |         Information
Children ages seven to 14 can learn or refine their skateboarding skills at the Vail Skatepark, located on top of the LionsHead parking structure during the summer. Clinics take place from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays throughout the summer. Cost is $25 or $20 for Vail residents. Skateboard and helmets required, wrist guards and kneepads recommended.
