2023 Year in Review

2023 was an eventful year for the Vail Recreation District! We successfully completed several significant and time-consuming administrative projects, including transitioning to a new payroll system, Paylocity, and conducting an extensive Employee Compensation Classification Study with CPS-Human Resources. Both projects were spearheaded by April Heredia, our Director of Administrative Services. Additionally, in collaboration with the Town of Vail, we also selected a new employee pension plan record keeper, Empower.

We saw increased participation across nearly every department compared to 2022. The Vail Recreation District thrived with high numbers in youth sports programs, races, special events, and summer camps, highlighting the community's continued enthusiasm for recreation.

Staffing challenges persisted in the Vail Valley, prompting the Vail Recreation District to explore the possibility of purchasing housing at the new Timber Ridge Neighborhood Village development. This discussion is ongoing and will continue into 2024.

In collaboration with the Town of Vail, we began seriously exploring options to renovate Dobson Ice Arena, a project that will also continue into 2024.

We extend a big thank you to our hard-working staff and our community for making 2023 a great year at the Vail Recreation District. We look forward to what the future brings at the VRD!
